How to Keep Self-Care Habits When Resolutions Start to Fade
We’re a few weeks into the new year, and if you’re anything like me, those resolutions that felt so fresh and exciting at the start might already feel a little harder to keep up. It’s normal—it happens to all of us.
When life starts to pile on, it helps to go back to basics. Think of it like this: life is like having a beautiful swimming pool. When it rains, the pool can overflow, and suddenly it’s not so calming anymore. What do you do when that happens? For me, it’s all about holding onto one or two daily self-care routines that bring me back to center.
Here are my top five grounding habits to keep close:
1. A Daily Morning Stretch (5 Minutes is Enough)
Take just five minutes to gently move your body. A simple stretch helps release tension, wake up your muscles, and start your day with clarity.
2. Morning Meditation (Reimagined)
Meditation doesn’t have to mean sitting cross-legged in silence. It could be enjoying your coffee or tea in peace, listening to the morning sounds, or taking a walk. The key is to unplug from the noise and connect with yourself.
3. Nourish with Healthy Proteins
Keeping your blood sugar stable is essential for managing stress. Personally, I start every day with a simple protein shake—my go-to grounding routine. Protein is foundational for staying strong and focused, and it’s a small act of self-care that makes a big impact.
4. Connect with Support
A quick text or call to a supportive friend or family member can remind you that you’re not alone. This small action can make a big difference.
5. Visualize Tomorrow Going Well
My teacher GP always says, “The day starts the night before.” Before bed, take a moment to envision tomorrow going well—not as a fantasy, but as a realistic and positive outlook. This habit can set the tone for a smoother day.
Ground Yourself with This Morning Smoothie
Here’s my favorite recipe to start the day feeling grounded and strong:
Jacqui’s Morning Protein Smoothie
- 1 scoop XO Jacqui Vanilla Greens protein powder
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- ½ frozen banana
- 1 handful of spinach or kale
- 1 tbsp almond butter
- 3-4 ice cubes
A Final Thought
Blend, sip, and enjoy!
As Katie Reed said, “Self-care is giving the world the best of you, instead of what’s left of you.” Start small, stay consistent, and take care of yourself—you’ve got this.
With love,
Jacqui
